COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team looked good for three quarters, but could not hold on as the Hoyas fell 85-66 to the No. 10/10 University of Maryland Terrapins on Sunday afternoon at Xfinity Center. With the loss, the Hoyas move to 1-1 overall, while the Terps improve to 3-0 on the year.

"We did a lot of good things today, but we didn't finish the job. We let them hit some shots and start going downhill on us in the fourth. I was proud of our group, we were out there fighting. There were a lot of positives to take away from the game. It's early in the season, and it was disappointing not to win, but it's something we can build off of."
How it Happened
- Maryland jumped out to an 11-point lead over the first seven minutes of the first quarter.
- The Hoyas didn't give up as the press began to wear on the Terps and turnovers as well as free throws put GU right back in it.
- A 6-0 run fueled by junior Khia Miller and graduate student Laila Jewett cut it to five with two minutes to go.
- Free throws down the stretch made it a three-point game, 16-13, at the end of the first.
- Graduate student Chetanna Nweke scored first in the second, and sophomore Khadee Hession added her first of three triples in the period to give the Blue & Gray its first lead of the game.
- As the defense forced turnovers, free throws and 3-pointers on the other end allowed Georgetown to go ahead by as much as seven.
- At the half, Georgetown was on top 36-31.
- The Blue & Gray continued to look strong in the third quarter
- Back-to-back 3-pointers from sophomore Summer Davis and Miller moved the Hoyas ahead by 10, 55-45, with two minutes remaining in the quarter.
- Late free throws would cut it to six going into the final stanza, 57-51.
- The Terps dominated the final quarter staging a 14-2 run to open the quarter and regain the lead.
- Georgetown would never find a way back as the Hoyas eventually fell 85-66.
Of Note
- Miller led the way as one of two Hoyas in double figures with 18 points and three steals.
- Hession managed 14 points going an impressive 4-6 from beyond the arc.
- Junior Cristen Carter led the Hoyas on the glass with six rebounds to go along with six points in the game.
- The Blue & Gray shot 38.0% (19-50) from the field, but Georgetown allowed 45.5% shooting (30-66) by the Terps.
- GU was outrebounded by Maryland, 45-27, and Georgetown forced 17 Terp turnovers on six steals.
- Addi Mack scored 23 points as one of three Terps in double figures.
