Wildcats Edge Hoyas

VILLANOVA, PA. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team lost a close one 70-65 to the Villanova University Wildcats on Wednesday evening in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Finneran Pavilion in Villanova, Pennsylvania. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 11-15 on the season and 4-11 in league play, while the Wildcats improve to 16-11 on the year and 10-5 in the BIG EAST.

How it Happened
  • Villanova opened the game with a triple, and stayed on top for the entire half.
  • The Hoyas and Wildcats would trade buckets throughout the quiet first quarter, but a small VU run midway through made it 17-10 at the end of the first stanza.
  • Ransom was dominant with eight of GU's 10 points in the quarter.
  • The 'Cats began the second quarter with another three, but the Hoyas answered right back.
  • Back-to-back jumpers from freshman Jayden McBride cut it to 26-22, but Villanova answered with a layup.
  • A 7-2 Nova run over the final three minutes made it 35-25 at the break.
  • Looking at an early 11-point deficit, a triple from freshman Khadee Hession sparked a 10-3 run to pull GU within four.
  • Senior Ariel Jenkins scored five points in the run.
  • Villanova would have an answer on the other end, and led 52-46 going into the final stanza.
  • Jenkins and Ransom began the fourth with consecutive three-point plays, and the Hoyas got stops before a 3-pointer from junior Victoria Rivera gave the GU its first lead of the game 57-55.
  • The 'Cats would respond with a 13-2 run to close out the game.
  • Even a late triple from Hession would not help as the Hoyas fell 70-65.
Of Note
  • Ransom led the way with 25 points, 10 boards as well as four assists and two steals. It marked her ninth-career double-double.
  • Jenkins managed 16 points to go along with 11 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.
  • Hession rounded out those in double figures tallying 11 points in the contest.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 42.3% (22-52) from the field, but allowed the Wildcats 45.3% (24-53) shooting in the contest.
