Georgetown Falls at St. John’s

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell to the St. John's University Red Storm 83-49 on Wednesday evening in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, New York. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 11-17 on the season and 4-13 in league play, while the Red Storm improves to 15-13 on the year and 5-12 in the BIG EAST.

How it Happened
  • St. John's scored early, but the Hoyas would stay right there to keep it within a possession.
  • Back-to-back triples by freshman Jayden McBride put the Hoyas on top on two occasions, and a late layup from graduate student Kelsey Ransom made it 14-13 in favor of the Blue & Gray at the end of the first.
  • A Ransom 3-pointer opened the third quarter as the Hoyas led the entire period.
  • St. John's kept it close, but the play of freshmen Alexia Araujo-Dagba and Jaeda Wilson kept the Hoyas on top.
  • In the final seconds of the half, the Hoyas pulled down a rebound and sent the outlet to freshman Khadee Hession who fired a contested shot from half court that was nothing but net to make it 34-29 at the break.
  • The third quarter belonged to St. John's as the Red Storm opened with an 18-2 run.
  • The end of the quarter saw offsetting technicals as the game got physical and GU trailed 59-41 after three.
  • The Hoyas would not find the way back in the fourth quarter, eventually falling 83-49.
Of Note
  • Ransom led the way with 14 points, while senior Ariel Jenkins had a game-high 11 boards.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 35.3% (18-51) from the field, but allowed the Red Storm 50.0% (31-62) shooting in the contest.
  • Georgetown was outrebounded by St. John's, 34-31, and forced eight SJU turnovers on three steals.
  • Lashae Dwyer led the way for St. John's with 25 points as one of two Red Storm players scoring in double figures.
