WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team went 1-1 in its first two matchups of the season at the CSU Kickoff in Charleston, South Carolina. In their first game of the season, the Hoyas defeated the Bellarmine Knights 7-1 behind a gem from
Kayla Dunn. In the second game of the day, the Hoyas fell to the Siena Saints 6-0. With a split of the doubleheader, the Hoyas are 1-1 on the season.

GAME ONE | Hoyas 7, Bellarmine 1
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Kayla Dunn picked up the first win for GU this season, pitching five one hit innings, giving up zero earned runs and striking out four batters.
- Julia Parker closed out the victory for Georgetown, retiring six batters in order while striking out five of those batters.
- Hollie Pardini went 1-3 with two runs-batted-in (RBIs) and the first homer of the season for the Hoyas.
- Emily Strittmatter had the other long ball for GU. Strittmatter went 1-2 with a walk and two RBIs.
- Abby Kozo went 1-4, which included a two-run single for GU.
- Gabby Park went 2-3 with a double.
- Claire Turner went 1-3 with an RBI.
- Dani Koo and Sammy Fenton both picked up their first career hits for Georgetown.
- Brooke Rehban went 1-4 with a run scored.
- Nina Sarlo scored a run in her debut for GU.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hoyas were the first to get on the board, with Strittmatter knocking in the first RBI of the season for the Hoyas with a sac fly that scored Turner, which gave GU an early 1-0 advantage.
- After a scoreless first inning from Dunn, Pardini got the offense rolling for GU with a two-run homer to center field, extending the Georgetown lead to 3-0.
- Dunn continued to work efficiently on the mound, holding the Knights scoreless for the first two innings, before Strittmatter homered to straight away center to stretch the lead to 4-0 in the third inning.
- With Dunn continuing to put up zero's, Kozo broke the game open with a two-run single to right field, giving the Blue & Gray a 6-0 lead after the first five frames.
- Bellarmine was able to scratch a run on the board from an RBI single from Harlie Bickett, but the Hoyas countered with a sac fly from Turner to make it 7-1.
- Parker took over for Dunn, tossing two scoreless innings with five punchouts to help GU earn its first win of the season.
GAME TWO | Hoyas 0, Siena 6
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless top half of the first, Siena got on the board first with back-to-back doubles from Ashley Giampolo and Emma Petersen to give the Saints a 1-0 lead after one.
- The score would remain the same until the fourth inning, with Gianna DiMeglio hitting an RBI single to score Chloe Cummings to extend the Siena lead to 2-0.
- Siena would continue to grow the lead out in the fifth, with a Giampolo double followed by a fielding error leading to another run. Siena held a 3-0 lead at the end of five.
- Just an inning later, the Saints would double their run total with an RBI single from Carlie Venables, followed by an RBI triple from Lauren Melton and capped off with the third double of the day from Giampolo to drive in Melton to make it a 6-0 ballgame.
- A scoreless seventh inning would seal a 6-0 shutout win for Siena.
OF NOTE
- Today's win against Bellarmine marks the first career win for Head Coach Karla Ross at the hilltop.
- Koo picked up her first collegiate hit, while Fenton picked up her first career hit at Georgetown.
- Sarlo scored her first collegiate run.

The Hoyas return to action tomorrow in the CSU Kickoff with a pair of games on the schedule. Georgetown faces Bellarmine in a rematch at 10 a.m. and will face the host Charleston Southern Buccaneers with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at the CSU Softball Complex in Charleston, South Carolina.
