Blue Demons Edge Hoyas

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team lost a close one 80-76 to the DePaul University Blue Demons on Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at McDonough Arena. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 11-12 on the season and 4-8 in league play, while the Blue Demons improve to 11-12 on the year and 4-8 in the BIG EAST.

How it Happened
  • The squads traded buckets early before the Blue Demons staged a 12-0 run to make it 19-8.
  • A layup from graduate student Kelsey Ransom would end the run and the Hoyas began to chip away at the advantage to make it 21-14 after the first.
  • DePaul continued to control the tempo of the contest, until freshman Khadee Hession got it done on both ends of the floor staging a 6-0 run of her own and getting a steal on defense to make 30-24.
  • Looking at a nine-point deficit with 6:56 remaining in the half, Georgetown would take over sparked by a triple from junior Victoria Rivera.
  • The 12-0 Hoya run closed out the half as the defense held DePaul scoreless and Georgetown went into the break leading 39-36.
  • DePaul regained the advantage early in the third quarter, but the Blue & Gray would keep it within a possession or two for the remainder of the stanza.
  • The Blue Demons had an answer for every Hoya bucket, and DePaul led 59-55 at the end of the third.
  • Ransom and Hession quickly made up the difference in the fourth as the grad student sparked a 12-0 run which included triples from classmate Siobhan Ryan and freshman Jaeda Wilson.
  • The final seven minutes of the contest saw four lead changes and as many ties.
  • DePaul knotted the game at 74 with under two minutes to play, and Georgetown would not find the comeback as the Blue Demons held on for the 80-76 decision.
