Hoyas Drop Last Game of Liberty Softball Invitational to Appalachian State; Finish the Weekend 2-3

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team dropped its final game of the Liberty Softball Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia, 10-2, to Appalachian State. With the loss, the Hoyas finished the weekend with a 2-3 record and moved to 8-5 on the season.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS

·       Abby Kozo went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

·       Gabby Park went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

·       Emily Strittmatter went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED

·       After a scoreless first inning from Kayla Dunn, the Hoyas put up two runs in the first, powered by an RBI single from Kozo to take an early 2-0 lead.

·       After a scoreless second inning from both sides, the score remained 2-0 until the third, when the Mountaineers scored five runs on three RBI hits, taking a 5-2 lead at the end of the inning.

·       Following a scoreless fourth, the Mountaineers added a run in the fifth to extend their lead to 6-2.

·       The Blue & Gray could not answer offensively, while the Mountaineers continued to add insurance runs. App State scored three runs on four hits in the sixth, opening up the lead to 9-2.

·       After App State added a run in the seventh, the Hoyas were held scoreless and came up short 10-2.

·       That score held as the Hoyas dropped their final game of the weekend.

The Hoyas will return to action for their first home game of the season against Holy Cross University on Wednesday, March 5. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy. A link to live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
