Georgetown Falls to Seton Hall in Series Finale

WASHINGTON — The Georgetown University softball team fell to Seton Hall, 14-6, in five innings in the final game of a three-game series in South Orange, New Jersey, on Sunday. With the loss, the Hoyas dropped to 8-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play, while the Pirates improved to 9-9 with a 3-0 mark in league action.

"Today we came out strong with the bats and kept fighting. But today it was just not enough. We look to regroup this week and get ready for St. John's" - Head Coach Karla Ross

Hoya Highlights

How It Happened

  • The Hoyas were the first to get on the board. A hit-by-pitch from Park, followed by back-to-back walks from Turner and Strittmatter, loaded the bases for Campos, who hit a two-run single up the middle to give the Hoyas an early 2-0 lead.
  • Georgetown added another run in the first as Murciano dragged a bunt past the pitcher to score Strittmatter, extending the lead to 3-0.
  • Seton Hall got one back in the bottom half of the first, but freshman pitcher Emily Collins escaped trouble and held the lead at 3-1.
  • The Pirates responded in the second inning with five runs, powered by a grand slam, to put them ahead 6-3 after two frames.
  • The Hoyas fought back as Campos hit a home run to the opposite field and an error by Seton Hall allowed Georgetown to get within a run at 6-5.
  • Seton Hall added one run in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth to extend its lead to 9-5.
  • Campos continued her hot bat, sending another ball over the wall to bring the Hoyas back within striking distance, with the score at 9-6 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
  • However, the Pirates' offense continued to roll, tallying five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to eight, enforcing the run-ahead rule for a 14-6 victory.

Of Note

  • Campos tallied her first two-home run game of the season and the second such game for the Hoyas this season. The junior finished with two home runs, four RBIs, and two runs scored in Sunday's contest.
  • Campos is now tied for fifth all-time in home runs, as her two home runs tied her with Mae Forshey.
  • Collins made the first start of her collegiate career against Seton Hall on Sunday.
