WASHINGTON - Despite five unanswered runs, the Georgetown University softball team came up short in a midweek nonconference matchup against the Towson Tigers, 7-5. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 9-24 on the season while the Tigers improve to 19-23.
Hoya Highlights
How it Happened
- The bats were hot in the early going for Towson. The first five batters who came up to the plate for the Tigers scored off a wild pitch, an RBI single and a three-run homerun to take a 5-0 lead right out of the gate.
- The Hoyas were unable to score in the bottom half of the first, as that 5-0 lead held for the Tigers heading into the second.
- Sage Hager retired Towson 1-2-3, while the Hoyas would threaten but not capitalize after a Fenton single and Kozo walk.
- Towson would grow its lead in the third with a two-run shot to left field, extending the lead to 7-0 heading into the bottom half of the third.
- The Hoyas would get on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI single down the third base line to score Sarlo and cut the deficit to 7-1.
- After Wissmar set Towson down in order, the Hoyas would continue to chip away. Campos and Pardini would hit back-to-back doubles, to trim the deficit to 7-2 before Pardini would score on an RBI groundout from Sarlo to make it 7-3 heading into the fifth.
- Wissmar threw up another scoreless inning before the Hoyas added another run courtesy of an RBI single from Fenton, making it 7-4 after four frames.
- After the third consecutive scoreless inning posted by Wissmar, the Hoyas would continue to draw closer with a solo shot to left field from Rebhan to cut the lead to 7-5.
- Wissmar put up another zero in the top of the seventh, as Georgetown looked to complete the comeback in the bottom half of the inning. Despite having the heart of the order at the plate, the Hoyas were retired in order, as Towson sealed a 7-5 win.
Of Note
- Rebhan's solo shot to left in the bottom of the sixth was the first roundtripper of the season for Rebhan and the second of the sophomore's career.
- Wissmar threw four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits.
