WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team came up short against the Providence Friars, 5-1 on Wednesday at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy in Washington D.C. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 9-25 on the season with a 0-16 mark in BIG EAST play while the Friars improve to 17-23 with a 10-9 mark in conference action.

How it Happened
- Providence got the scoring going in the top of the first. A double, followed by back-to-back walks loaded the bases for the Friars. Providence was able to scratch out a run courtesy of an RBI groundout, giving them a 1-0 lead.
- That score would stay put until the bottom of the third before Park hit a towering solo shot to right center field to even up the score at 1-1.
- Dunn would put up a shutdown inning in the top of the fourth, while Georgetown's offense would threaten in the bottom half of the inning. Back-to-back singles from Fenton and Kozo with one out would be stranded, keeping the score leveled at 1-1.
- In the top of the fifth, Providence hit a towering solo shot to straight away center to retake the lead at 2-1.
- Providence continued to get runs via the long ball. In the top of the sixth, the Friars plated three runs off of two home runs, growing their lead to 5-1.
- The Blue & Gray offense was unable to muster a rally together, as they dropped the opening game against Providence by a final score of 5-1.
