WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team split a doubleheader against the Providence Friars on Thursday afternoon at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy in Washington D.C. In game one, Georgetown defeated Providence 7-0 before falling 7-2 in game two. With a split, the Hoyas move to 10-26 on the season with a 1-17 mark in BIG EAST play while Providence moves to 18-24, 11-10 in conference action.

Hoya Highlights
- Avery Wissmar was lights out on the mound. The graduate student went the full seven innings, allowing no runs on four hits, walking two and striking out four.
- Dayanara Campos was 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.
- Gabby Park was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
- Abby Kozo went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- Sammy Fenton went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
- Hollie Pardini was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
- Nina Sarlo was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
- Claire Turner was 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored.

How it Happened
- After a scoreless top of the first by Wissmar, the Hoyas broke the bats out early. With one out, Turner and Strittmatter each walked and stole a base, setting up second and third for Fenton who belted a two-run double in the left centerfield gap to open up a 2-0 lead.
- That score would stay the same until the fourth before Georgetown would add to its lead. Campos reached on an error and scored off of a Pardini RBI double to make it 3-0. Two batters later, Sarlo drove in Park with a safety squeeze, scoring Pardini to make it 4-0. A Turner RBI single would score to make it a 5-0 Hoyas lead.
- After another scoreless frame from Wissmar, the Hoyas would add insurance. With Kozo on first, Campos delivered a towering two-run home run to right field to extend the lead to 7-0.
- Wissmar would seal the deal with two more scoreless frames to complete the shutout and give the Hoyas their first conference win of the season.

How it Happened
- Providence got the bats going right out of the gate. The Friars would tally two runs on three hits, giving them an early 2-0 advantage.
- Providence would continue to add runs in the top of the second. A leadoff home run extended the lead for PC to 3-0 before they added two runs courtesy of two RBI hits to widen the gap at 5-0.
- The Hoyas would tack on a run in the bottom of the second off of an RBI double from Park to cut the lead to 5-1.
- Sage Hager would enter the game for the Hoyas and keep them within striking distance until the sixth, when Providence would add a run off of a double steal, growing the lead to 6-1.
- Georgetown would retaliate in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double off of the left centerfield wall by Pardini to get the run right back at 6-2.
- Providence would add an insurance run courtesy of a solo shot in the top of seventh before putting up a scoreless seventh inning to secure a 7-2 win in the rubber game of the series.
Of Note
- In the 7-0 win in game one, Wissmar threw the first complete game shutout of her collegiate career. The graduate student has thrown 12 consecutive scoreless innings for the Blue & Gray.
- In game one's win, all nine Georgetown starters reached base, with eight-of-nine batters recording a hit and six of them scoring.
- Turner is just one stolen base shy of 40 for her collegiate career, the junior is fourth on the all-time stolen base list.
- Park and Kozo each recorded multi-hit games in both games of the doubleheader.
