Hoyas Come Up Short Against George Washington

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team came up short against the George Washington Revolutionaries, 2-0 at GW Softball Field in Washington, D.C. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 10-27 while the Revolutionaries improve to 28-17.

Hoya Highlights

  • Kayla Dunn was sharp inside the circle for the Hoyas. The graduate student went 3.0 innings allowing no runs on two hits, walking two and striking out two.
  • Avery Wissmar entered in relief and went 1.1 scoreless innings.
  • Brooke Rebhan went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base.
  • Sammy Fenton was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt.
  • Gabby Park went 1-for-3 with a stolen base.
  • Nina Sarlo reached base safely once with a walk.

How it Happened

  • It was a pitchers duel in the early going, with both sides posting 1-2-3 innings to open the contest in the first inning.
  • In the second inning, both teams would threaten but neither would capitalize. Rebhan would reach with an infield hit and get to third via a wild pitch and a stolen base, but would be stranded.
  • In the bottom of the second, GW would put runners on first and second with two outs, but Dunn would escape trouble with help from Hollie Pardini who made a terrific catch on a pop up behind the plate.
  • The Hoyas would continue to flash the leather to help prevent runs from scoring. With two on and two out in the top of the third, Claire Turner made a diving grab on a ball hit to shallow center to prevent a run from scoring and keeping the game tied at 0-0.
  • With Sage Hager pitching in the top of the fourth with the score still at 0-0, Turner made another run saving catch, running a long distance to her left to track down a ball in the right centerfield gap to keep the game tied.
  • The scoreless tie would be broken in the bottom half of the fifth inning, where George Washington would tally two runs off of a hit and three walks to take a 2-0 lead heading into the sixth.
  • Despite having runners in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings, the Hoyas were unable to plate either run and fell to the Revolutionaries, 2-0.
