Women’s Lacrosse Earns 14-13 Victory Over Marquette on Senior Day

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team held off Marquette to earn its fourth-straight BIG EAST victory 14-13 on Cooper Field on Saturday afternoon. The Hoyas advance to 9-6 on the season and 4-1 in conference play, while the Golden Eagles are now 9-6 overall and 3-3 in BIG EAST action.  

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hoyas and Golden Eagles battled it out in the first quarter, exchanging two pairs of goals. At the end of the first, the contest was tied 2-2. 
  • GU came out strong in the second, with a five-goal scoring run to go up 7-2.  Marquette responded at 5:27 mark, scoring two goals to come within three goals at halftime. 
  • The Golden Eagles continued their momentum into the third, scoring two goals in the opening three minutes of the quarter. Gracie Driggs responded for the Hoyas with two back-to-back goals to widen GU's lead 9-6. The Golden Eagles scored three more goals to come within one of the Hoyas (10-9), but the Blue & Gray closed out the third quarter with two goals to earn a three-goal lead (12-9). 
  • Marquette made a four-goal run in the fourth quarter, but the Hoyas would hold off the Golden Eagles to earn the one goal victory 14-13.
OF NOTE UP NEXT
The Hoyas will travel to Storrs, Connecticut to take on UConn in the BIG EAST regular season finale on Saturday, April 26. Opening draw is scheduled for noon at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
