Women’s Lacrosse Falls 20-9 to Denver in the BIG EAST Semifinals

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team fell 20-9 to Denver in the BIG EAST Semifinals on Thursday afternoon at Villanova Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Denver opened the first quarter with a four-goal run to earn an early lead. Rosie McCarthy found the back of the net off a free-position goal to get the Hoyas on the board at the 3:24 mark. Thirty seconds later, Hanna Bishop connected with Reagan Ziegler to record GU's second goal of the contest. The Pioneers responded with a three-goal run to lead 7-2 at the end of the first quarter. 
  • Maley Starr got the scoring started in the second quarter with a free-position goal at the 12:04 mark. Gracie Driggs recorded her 50th goal of the season off a free position. The Pioneers scored four goals to widen their lead to 11-4 at halftime. 
  • The Pioneers notched the first goal of the third quarter at the 12:39 mark, but Sophia Loschert responded with two goals for the Hoyas. GU and DU exchanged goals to close out the third, with the Pioneers leading 13-7.
  • Denver scored seven goals in the fourth quarter to secure a 20-9 BIG EAST Semifinals victory. 
OF NOTE
  • BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, Loschert led the Hoyas with three goals, followed by Driggs and McCarthy with two each.
  • Driggs recorded a team-high of 14 draw controls. 
  • The Hoyas controlled the circle, going 21-9 at the draw. 
  • In net, Leah Warehime recorded eight saves.
