WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team dropped game two of the three-game series against the Creighton Bluejays 8-6. With the loss, the Hoyas fall 16-39 on the season and 3-17 in BIG EAST play while the Bluejays improve to 37-14 with a 16-4 mark in conference action.

ON THE RECORD
"Another tough day, but really competitive on both sides. Obviously, for our seniors, I was hoping we'd pull that one out for them, but they've meant so much to our team and our organization over the last four years. I thought their starter did pretty well as he has been pretty good all season long for them. I was really happy offensively. A lot of guys had some good hits. Ashton Seymore and Connor Price had some big hits for us. We just didn't quit, we kept fighting. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough, but we had some guys coming out of the bullpen who did a great job. I thought Jack Volo, Marshall Whitmer, Nadell Booker and Axel Johnson all did a good job to give us a chance there. We just came up a little bit short. We competed hard and we're ready to come back out for the last ride tomorrow at 11: 30." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Creighton found its way back to home plate first in the top of the first inning on a sac fly into center field to leisurely bring in a runner from third. The Bluejays would go on to notch two more runs courtesy of a pair of RBI singles and would exit the top of the first frame with a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the first inning, Caster reached on an error and in the ensuing at bat, Gilio smoked a double off the right field wall. Carapellotti followed with a sac fly to deep left field which allowed Caster to come home, cutting the Hoya deficit to two.
  • The Bluejays scratched another run in the top of the second, driven in by a fielder's choice but that would be their only run of the frame. Jaden Sheffield would get the batting started in the bottom of the second inning with a base hit to left field. The second run of the day for the Hoyas was scored off an RBI double from Seymore, sending Jaden Sheffield home from second base. After a fly ball moved Seymore to third, Gilio stepped up to the plate and laced an RBI single to right, cutting the deficit to one.
  • Georgetown tied things up in the bottom of the third when Savoy Jr. laced a single back at the pitcher and an error allowed Jeremy Sheffield to score, knotting it up at 4-4. Caster proceeded to rip an RBI single to left field to get Savoy home and take the lead in the ballgame.
  • Creighton would take back the lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI double and a RBI groundout to second to make it 6-5. Following a 97-minute weather delay, Jergins took the mound to close out the top of the fourth frame with a strikeout. The fifth inning was the first scoreless frame of the ballgame.
  • The scoring resumed in the top of the sixth when Creighton hit a sac fly with the bases loaded to score a single run. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Hoyas kicked things off with back-to-back singles from Seymore and Caster. Carapellotti proceeded to load the bases on an intentional walk. GU was unable to bring any of the runners home as the Bluejays took the 7-5 advantage into the seventh frame.
  • Schaaf started the seventh with a leadoff double before quickly stealing third putting a runner 90-feet from home. In the ensuing at bat, a ground out to short allowed Schaaf to come home, cutting the Bluejay lead to one. Creighton quickly responded, adding another run to the board on a solo shot to left center.
  • GU was unable to mount a comeback in the final frame, dropping the contest, 8-6.
