Hoyas Win! Men’s Lacrosse Wins Seventh-Straight BIG EAST Title

DENVER – Georgetown University's top-seeded men's lacrosse team defeated second seed Villanova 16-8 on Saturday in the title game of the BIG EAST Championship, Presented by JEEP. With the win, the Hoyas earn their seventh-straight BIG EAST title and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
 
Aidan Carroll was named the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player while Fulton Bayman, Ross Prince and Anderson Moore were selected for the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team. Carroll is the first player in league history to be named the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player twice, after also earning the honor in 2024.
 
Hoya Highlights
  • Carroll led the Hoyas with 10 points on eight goals and a pair of assists, setting BIG EAST records for goals and points in a league tournament game.
  • Jack Ransom added three goals and two assists, Fulton Bayman had a goal and two assists and Joe Cesare chipped in two goals.
  • Kevin Miller tallied a goal and an assist, Jordan Wray scored once, Kade Goldberg had three assists and Patrick Crogan added one.
  • Joe Cesare tallied two goals and two assists while both Kevin Miller and Jordan Wray posted two goals as well.
  • Prince was 17-for-23 on faceoffs and collected a career-high 10 ground balls.
  • In goal, Anderson Moore (11-4) collected 12 saves in the win.
How it Happened
  • Georgetown came out on fire, scoring two goals in the first 1:16 and a third less than four minutes in to lead 3-0. Villanova responded with two goals to pull within one but the Hoyas added a late score to lead 4-2 after 15 minutes of action.
  • The second quarter, the Wildcats scored on the opening possession but GU responded with back-to-back goals to lead 6-3 at the 8:03 mark. A Villanova goal in transition with 1:44 to play had the Wildcats within two before Georgetown found the back of the net with 38 seconds remaining to take a 7-4 lead into halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, the Hoyas outscored Villanova 5-1 in the frame with four goals coming courtesy of Carroll.
  • Georgetown scored the first two goals in the fourth quarter before Villanova started a late comeback attempt with three-straight goals to make it a 14-8 contest with 8:32 to play. The Hoyas closed things out with two unanswered goals from Ransom to seal the victory.
Villanova Notes
  • Matt Licata led the Wildcats (8-7) with two goals and an assist while Quinton Cepiel added two goals.
  • In goal, Denis Fargione had eight saves in the loss.
Georgetown Notes
  • The Hoyas win their seventh-straight BIG EAST Tournament title, a league and NCAA Division I record.
  • With his 10 points, Carroll moves into 13th place all time on the Georgetown career scoring list with 143 points. He passes Neal Goldman ('04), Dan Martin ('97), Craig Dowd ('10), Dylan Watson ('22) and Michael Mauboussin ('86) on the list.
  • Carroll notched his 66th point of the season, becoming just the third Hoya in program history to score at least 60 points in two different campaigns.
