WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey team opens its 2025 campaign with a pair of neutral site games in Towson, Maryland over the weekend. The Hoyas open the season against Davidson on Friday, August 29 at noon before facing Appalachian State on Sunday, August 31 at 3 p.m.
 
Both games will be played at the Towson Field Hockey Complex as part of doubleheaders with the host Tigers.
 
About the Hoyas

• Georgetown returns five of its top six scorers from 2024 and more than 80 percent of its offensive production.
• Senior Sydney Yodh (2 goals, 3 assists) and sophomore Colleen Maloney (3 goals, 1 assist) both had seven points for the Hoyas last season – tied for second-best on the squad.
• Juniors Izzy Lee and Elena Perez Alejandro both had two goals and an assist last season for five points while senior captain Lily Jamison added a goal and two assists for four points.
• Senior Ellie Johnson also scored a goal and an assist las year while sophomores Riley Fitzgerald and Katherine Malloy both scored as well.
• Defensively, the Hoyas battled in eight one-goal games and look to capitalize on their experience playing down to the wire.
• In goal, junior captain Ella Fahey is back between the pipes after posting back-to-back 100 save seasons for the Blue & Gray.
• Georgetown welcomes eight newcomers for the 2025 season, including six freshman and a pair of sophomore transfers.

Scouting Davidson

• Friday's season opener is slated for noon in Towson.
• The Wildcats return all but three players who registered a point in 2024, bringing back 72 percent of their offensive production from a year ago.
• Sib Naaktgeboren is back and paced Davidson with five goals and four assists for 14 points last year to lead the Wildcats in scoring for the second-straight season.
• Both of Davidson's goalkeepers return, with MaryKate Berg and Eleanor Larsen combining for a 2.28 goals-against average, 55 saves and a.585 save percentage.
• Georgetown has opened the regular season against Davidson every year since 2015 with the exception of 2021.
• Davidson and the Hoyas played to a no contest to open last season as lightning forced the game to be called at halftime and could not be completed.

Scouting AppState

• The Mountaineers went 11-8 last season and lost in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
• AppState returns only two of their top-six scorers from a year ago but have leading scoring Lise Boekaar (3 goals, 7 assists) back for another year.
• In goal, the Mountaineers return Claire Grenis who played every minute between the pipes last season and collected 71 saves while posting a 1.89 GAA and a .710 save percentage.
• AppState faces Towson on Friday before playing the Hoyas.
• Georgetown and AppState faced off in the opening weekend last year in Boone, North Carolina with the Mountaineers winning 3-0.
