WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey team won its 2025 season opener 2-1 against Davidson in a neutral site showdown in Towson, Maryland on Friday. The Hoyas start the year 1-0 while the Wildcats move to 0-1.
Sydney Yodh tallied both goals for the Hoyas, knotting the game at 1-1 in the second quarter on a rebound shot before netting the game-winner in the third quarter on a penalty corner.
Izzy Lee and
Elena Perez Alejandro assisted on the winning goal.
In goal,
Ella Fahey and
Alex Duff split halves between the pipes and combined for six saves on the day. Fahey got the start and played the opening 30 minutes, collecting five saves, while Duff closed out the final 30 minutes of action and had one save.
Davidson got on the board first, scoring at the 13:25 mark off during a scrum following a shot off a penalty corner that hit the post. Lourdes Wolf was credited with the goal while Emilia Little had the assist.
Georgetown responded in the second quarter, knotting things up with just under five minutes to play in the half. Yodh found the rebound of a shot from
Katherine Malloy and beat the Wildcat keeper to make it 1-1.
Yodh's game-winner came just 3:38 into the second half, converting off a penalty corner.
