Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Georgetown Falls at Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Georgetown University's men's basketball team couldn't contain a second-half surge from the Villanova University Wildcats, falling 66-51 at Finneran Pavilion on Wednesday night. With the setback, Georgetown slips to 9-10 on the season with a 1-7 record in BIG EAST play while the Wildcats improve to 15-4 overall with a 6-2 record in league action.

ON THE RECORD
"Obviously not very happy with the way we played in the second half. Loved our energy and toughness in the first half … Villanova does what they do, you know, they use a ball screen 118 times a game and they took advantage of that and made some shots. I didn't like our overall team discipline today. Obviously, you know, it's a tough situation … but on to the next game in the BIG EAST. So there's opportunity knocking, looking forward to our next game." - Head Coach Ed Cooley

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • A pair of Hoyas were in double figures with Kayvaul Mulready and KJ Lewis each reaching 12 points. Mulready came off the bench to go 4-for-8 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers and a perfect 2-for-2 performance from the charity stripe. He grabbed four rebounds, managed one block and tallied one steal in 25 minutes off the bench.
  • Lewis added 12 points on 40.0% (4-10) shooting from the floor and a 4-for-6 performance from the line. He pulled down a pair of rebounds and managed one steal.
  • Julius Halaifonua and Vince Iwuchukwu each collected eight rebounds in the contest to lead the Hoyas on the glass.
  • Malik Mack's five assists paced the GU offense.
  • Georgetown shot 34.0% (17-50) for the game and 32.0% (8-25) from beyond the arc.
  • The Blue & Gray outrebounded the Wildcats, 36-34.

WILDCAT HIGHLIGHTS
  • Tyler Perkins led a quartet of Wildcats in double figures with 16 points on 5-for-15 shooting. Acaden Lewis followed with 15 points, Bryce Lindsay tallied 11 and Duke Brennan recorded 10.
  • Brennan led on the boards with a game-high 10 rebounds for the double-double while also recording a squad-best three assists.
  • Villanova shot 40.7% (24-59) from the field and 31.8% (7-22) from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hoyas knocked down a pair of early 3-pointers, one each from C. Williams and Isaiah Abraham, to take the 6-3 lead. The home team reeled off four in a row until a Halaifonua layup gave the Blue & Gray the narrow advantage once again (8-7, 15:27).
  • A game of runs, Villanova managed a 4-0 spurt before Georgetown answered with a quick five points in 15 seconds behind a Lewis bucket and a C. Williams triple. The squads would continue to trade points as trips to the line kept the 'Cats ahead.
  • Trailing four (22-18), GU drained the next five points from the charity stripe to take the 23-22 advantage. However, a pair of Nova buckets sent the squads into the locker room with VU holding a 26-23 lead.
  • Villanova knocked down a quick 10 points to open the second frame, leading 36-23 with 17:24 left in regulation. The Hoyas struggled to find their footing in the second half, as the 'Cats ballooned the lead to 24 points (55-31).
  • A 10-0 run for the Blue & Gray cut the lead to 14, with triples from Mulready and Abraham sandwiching five from Lewis. Georgetown would cut it to 13 points on two separate occasions - as C. Williams laced a trey and an Iwuchukwu tip in, but that's as close as the Hoyas would come as Villanova cruised to the 66-51 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mulready's 12 points is a career high for the sophomore. His previous best was nine points against Nebraska in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Crowns on April 2, 2025.
