Georgetown Falls to Seton Hall

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell 58-52 to the Seton Hall University Pirates on Thursday morning in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at McDonough Arena. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 12-9 overall and 5-7 in BIG EAST play, while the Pirates improve to 15-6 and 9-3 in league action.

Head Coach Darnell Haney
  • "Today, we needed to be ready to come out here and to take care of business. Kudos to Seton Hall, they did a good job getting the win, but I think our team really has to lock in and be who we are to the best of our ability for four quarters."
How it Happened
  • The teams were hot from long range early on as they combined for eight triples in the first quarter.
  • The lead swung back and forth, but a late 9-2 Pirate run to close out the first stanza made it 22-16 after one.
  • A 3-pointer by sophomore Summer Davis began the second quarter, and the Blue & Gray was able to cut it to one before an 8-3 SHU run put the Pirates back on top.
  • Georgetown managed to keep it close for the remainder of the quarter but trailed 31-26 at the half.
  • Seton Hall maintained the lead for much of the third quarter going ahead by as much as six.
  • Over the final two minutes, the Hoya defense forced turnovers and got stops.
  • On the other end, junior Khia Miller scored five of GU's seven points including a buzzer beating put back to make it 42-41 in favor of the Blue & Gray after three.
  • The Pirates staged a 9-0 run to begin the final quarter of action, but the Hoyas would not go away quietly.
  • Georgetown made a game of it, pulling within five on a triple from sophomore Destiny Agubata, but free throws allowed SHU to hold on as GU fell 58-52.
Of Note
  • Agubata led the way with 12 points, while graduate student Brianna Scott added 11 and Miller had 10.
  • Sophomore Khadee Hession pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, and Miller managed three steals.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 34.5% (20-58) from the field, and allowed 39.5% (17-43) shooting by Seton Hall.
  • The Hoyas outrebounded the Pirates 35-26, and GU forced 18 SHU turnovers on five steals.
  • Mariana Valenzuela led the way for Seton Hall with 19 points as one of two Pirates in double figures.
  • Thursday was unique as it was the second morning game in a row for the Blue & Gray.
