Volleyball Outlasts DePaul in Five-Set Thriller

WASHINGTON – Georgetown volleyball rallied for a thrilling 3-2 victory (18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 21-25, 15-8) over DePaul at McGrath-Phillips Arena on Saturday night. With the win, the Hoyas move to 11-6 overall and 3-3 in the BIG EAST, while the Blue Demons drop to 12-5 and 4-2 in the conference.

"So very proud of our team win tonight. We had a number of Hoyas step up tonight against a great opponent. Always hard to win games on the road in the Big East. Also, shoutout to the Chicago Hoyas for showing out strong tonight! Hoya Saxa!" -Head Coach AJ Bonetti

"So proud of this team for bouncing back and taking a gritty win on the road! Always super special playing in Chicago now that there are four natives on the squad. Best offensive effort we've had in conference, and shoutout to our back line for scrappy defense keeping us in rallies. All gas, no brakes" -Senior Kamryn Lee-Caracci

The Hoyas traded points early with the Blue Demons before DePaul used a 9-2 run to take a 12-6 lead and force a Georgetown timeout. GU responded out of the break with five straight points to trim the deficit to one, powered by a pair of Juleigh Urbina service aces. DePaul regained control from there, extending its lead to seven before taking the set 25-18.

Katherine McGregor provided offensive consistency with four kills to help build a 12-10 Georgetown lead in the second set. After DePaul edged ahead 13-12, Berkeley Ploder put down back-to-back kills to close out a 5-0 Hoya run. McGregor capped off a dominant offensive frame with a set point as the Hoyas dropped hit .457 to take the set 25-18 and equalize the match.

DePaul grabbed a 15-13 lead midway through the third, but the Hoyas answered with three straight points to jump back ahead. Following a series of traded points down the stretch, a Natalie Nguyen service ace sealed a late 3-1 spurt for a 25-22 victory.

Errors by the Blue Demons broke a mid-set stalemate before Dionna Mitchell and Alexis Anderson put down kills to give Georgetown a 15-13 edge at the media break. DePaul responded with a 5-1 run, but timely kills from Kamryn Lee-Caracci and Anderson kept the Hoyas close before the Blue Demons closed on a 6-1 surge to take the fourth set 25-21 and force a fifth set.

Four kills and two blocks from Kamryn Lee-Caracci pushed the Hoyas to a 10-8 lead in the fifth, forcing a DePaul timeout. Out of the break, Lee-Caracci answered the call again, capping a match-ending 7-0 run with a block to seal the 15-8 victory in the five-set thriller.
