WASHINGTON – Georgetown volleyball fell 3-2 to UConn (23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 15-13) on Halloween at the UConn Volleyball Center in Storrs, Connecticut. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 12-11 overall and 4-8 in the BIG EAST, while the Huskies move to 10-15 overall and 3-9 in the conference.
The Hoyas and Huskies traded blows throughout much of the opening set, featuring five lead changes early on. UConn strung together a 4-0 run out of the media break to force a Georgetown timeout at 18-15. The Hoyas responded with a kill from
Dionna Mitchell that sparked a 4-1 run, grabbing a slight 21-20 advantage. After UConn fended off two set points down the stretch, Georgetown held on to secure a 25-23 win.
Kamryn Lee-Caracci,
Katherine McGregor and Mitchell each notched multiple kills as the Hoyas built a 15-10 lead midway through the second frame, hitting an efficient .526 as a team. UConn answered by taking 11 of the next 15 points to regain the edge at 21-19, prompting a Georgetown timeout. The Huskies rode that momentum to a 25-20 victory to level the match.
Lee-Caracci took charge in the third set with three kills and a block, helping Georgetown construct a 17-12 advantage. The Hoyas later pushed their lead to six before a 5-0 Husky surge trimmed the margin to one at 23-22.
Berkeley Ploder answered out of a Georgetown timeout with the set-sealing kill to lock up a 25-23 victory.
UConn looked in control of the fourth set, but four early kills by Mitchell kept Georgetown afloat before the squad took a 10-9 lead. The Huskies quickly regrouped with a 5-1 run to stretch their advantage. A kill from
Grace Albaugh and back-to-back blocks helped the Hoyas fight off two set points to knot the score at 24-24, but UConn ultimately pulled away to take the extra-point set, 26-24.
Both sides exchanged 4-1 runs to open the decisive fifth set, tying the score at 5-5. An Albaugh kill then sparked a 3-0 Hoya surge that forced a UConn timeout. However, the Huskies returned from the break to outscore Georgetown 10-5 down the stretch, sealing a 15-13 set win and taking the match.
