NEW YORK – Playing its third game in as many nights, the 11th-seeded Georgetown University men's basketball team couldn't continue its BIG EAST Tournament run, falling 67-51 to #2 UConn in the semifinals on Friday night at Madison Square Garden. With the setback in New York, the Hoyas finish the season with an overall record of 16-18. UConn, currently tabbed the No. 6 team in the country in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Poll, improves to 29-4 on the season as the Huskies advance to the BIG EAST Tournament championship game to face top-seeded St. John's.
ON THE RECORD
"Obviously disappointed with just our overall energy today. I thought we were flat right from the beginning. I thought Connecticut did a really good job defensively. They had just a little bit of extra juice in their step. The game was still in hand right up until about the eight minute mark. … But proud of our group, proud of the way we played in this BIG EAST tournament. It's always a pleasure to play here … We got a lot of things to address in order to get back to this game next year and try to become an NCAA tournament team. The BIG EAST needs Georgetown to be good for us to continue to build as an organization in the Big East." - Head Coach
Ed Cooley
"Playing for Coach Cooley was an awesome experience. He really cares about us, cares about all the players, all the staff, the support staff. So just being around some love like that was a great thing to be around, something I really looked for in my recruitment, as well as I think it's a testament to who he is as a coach and how we performed all year. Obviously we didn't get results we wanted to, but like our group never, we never wavered. We didn't get down on ourselves. We knew we weren't who we thought we were going to be throughout the season, but we showed up every single day and prepared ourselves like we were No. 1 in the BIG EAST. So it's a credit to Coach Cooley. I appreciate him giving me this opportunity to play for Georgetown, and it's something I'll cherish forever for the rest of my life." - Jeremiah WIlliams
"I just feel like Coach Cooley is always going to hold us accountable and he knows what's best and he knows what our best is. So we couldn't ask him to do anything else but then hold us accountable." -

Jeremiah Williams drained a triple to bring the Hoyas within a pair of possessions.
- Despite a Connecticut bucket, Vince Iwuchukwu hit the layup, drew the foul and hit the and-one to make it a one-possession game (11-8). After another bucket for Huskies, J. Williams retorted with a layup of his own to send the squads into the media timeout with the Hoyas trailing a possession (13-10).
- Out of the huddle, turnovers hurt the Hoyas as UConn built the lead to eight on a 7-2 stretch. A Kayvaun Mulready layup gave the Hoyas some life but UConn came back with four unanswered to extend the gap to double digits. The teams traded points to close the frame as the second-seeded Huskies took a 32-21 lead into the locker room.
- The second half saw J, Williams tally the layup in hopes of sparking a strong second half but UConn found the long ball and built the lead to as many as 14 (41-27) before the first media timeout of the second half. Iwuchukwu strung together four in a row to take it back to single digits but the Huskies continued to find the answer. A hopeful Hoya squad pulled within eight (48-40, 7:39) when Caleb Williams drained a triple but UConn responded with a trey of its own.
- That's as close as the Hoyas would get as UConn ran away with the 67-51 victory.
