Men’s Lacrosse Opens BIG EAST Play at Denver

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's 14th-ranked men's lacrosse begins the BIG EAST season on the road with a top-15 showdown at league rival No. 13 Denver on Saturday. Opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m. ET at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium in the Mile High City.

  • The Hoyas are ranked 14th in both the most recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches Poll and Kane Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
  • Georgetown is coming off an 18-12 setback at eighth-ranked Syracuse on Sunday.
  • Liam Connor led Georgetown with two goals and five assists for seven points on the day to go with four ground balls.

  • Cody has gone 56-for-117 (.479) on faceoffs with 32 ground balls while Ross Prince is .482 on the year at the faceoff dot, winning 27-of-56 to go with 15 ground balls.
  • In goal, Moore has an 11.59 goals-against average to go with a .515 save percentage and 86 saves in five games.
Scouting Denver
  • The Pioneers are 4-4 on the season and coming off an 8-7 loss at sixth-ranked Duke on Sunday. All four of Denver's losses came against top-10 teams.
  • Cody Malawsky (17G, 4A) and Marek Tzagournis (12G, 10A) both lead DU with 22 points while Chase Bruno adds 14 (10G, 4A).
  • Luke Smeader is Denver's top faceoffs specialist, winning 66-of-141 (.468) draws with 43 ground balls.
  • Defensively, Russell Overly anchors the Pioneer defense with nine caused turnovers and 29 ground balls.
  • In goal, Grayson Manning (4-4) has played all but 19:44 between the pipes and boasts a 7.60 GAA to go with a .640 save percentage and 103 saves.
Series History
  • Georgetown and Denver have played 16 times since the Pioneers joined the BIG EAST in 2014, with the Pios owning a 9-7 overall record.
  • Denver won the first six meetings in the series, but Georgetown has won seven of the last 11 matchups.
  • The Hoyas are 2-5 all-time on the road at Denver.
