Hoyas Open BIG EAST Play Victorious at No. 13 Denver

DENVER – Georgetown University's 14th-ranked men's lacrosse team earned a resounding 17-5 victory at No. 13 Denver in the 2026 BIG EAST opener on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 4-4 on the year and 1-0 in league play while the Pioneers fall to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the BIG EAST.
 
Hoya Highlights
  • Kevin Miller led Georgetown with a career-high five goals while Liam Connor added a goal and four assists to go with three ground balls.
  • Joe Cesare had two goals and two assists, Rory Connor and Jack Schubert each had two goals and an assist, and both Natty Mason and Jack Ransom scored twice as well.
  • Jake Bickel had a goal and two assists for the Hoyas.
  • Hayden Cody went 13-for-25 (.520) on faceoffs with four ground balls.
  • Defensively, Charlie McGurrin was credited with three caused turnovers and collected six ground balls. As a team, the Hoyas were credited with 13 caused turnovers on the day and held Denver scoreless for a total of 27:25 spanning the second through fourth quarters.
  • In goal, Anderson Moore (4-4) posted a .714 save percentage after earning 10 saves against just four goals allowed in 52:25 minutes of action.
How it Happened
  • Following a slow start to the game, Denver got on the board first at the 9:43 mark but kicked off a barrage of first half scoring. Georgetown responded less than a minute later at 8:50 with Liam Connor's goal before Schubert gave the Hoyas their first lead of the game at 7:01 courtesy of a Rory Connor assist. The Pioneers knotted things up at 2-2 with 2:26 remaining in the quarter, but goals from Ransom and Schubert in the final two minutes gave the Blue & Gray a 4-3 lead after 15 minutes of action.
  • In the second, Bickel scored on GU's opening possession but Denver answered with a goal at the 12:55 mark to keep it a two-goal game at 5-3. Georgetown took over from there, scoring six of the next seven goals with goals from five different Hoyas to lead 11-4 going in to halftime.
  • Coming out of the locker room, Georgetown continued to control the second half and blanked Denver 3-0 in the third period to lead 14-4.
  • In the final frame, the Blue & Gray held the Pioneers scoreless until just 73 seconds remaining to seal the 17-5 win.

  • Rory Graham and Chris Merageas both had a goal and an assist.
  • Luke Smeader went 10-for-19 (.526) on faceoffs with eight ground balls.
  • Defensively, Russell Overly had three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
  • In goal, Grayson Manning (4-5) had 14 saves in the loss.
