Georgetown Softball Defeats Villanova in Final Game of Series

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team beat the Villanova University Wildcats 7-5 in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon in Villanova, Pennsylvania. With the win, the Hoyas move to 10-13 overall and 3-6 in league play, while the Wildcats fall to 8-27 on the season and 4-8 in the BIG EAST.
 
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hoyas got off to a hot start with a double by Dayanara Campos who was then sent home by a home run by Emily Strittmatter.
  • In the second inning, a single by Devyn Johnson and a double by Gabby Park added two runs for Georgetown, but Villanova responded by putting up two runs of their own.
  • Another double by Dayanara Campos in the top of the third added a run for the Hoyas, putting them up 5-2 by the end of the inning.
  • In the fifth inning, a double by Nina Sarlo and singles by Taylor Francis and Devyn Johnson added to the Hoya lead. In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats put up three runs to bring the score to 7-5.
  • The Hoyas held off the Wildcats in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the victory.
UP NEXT

The Hoyas come home to Washington, D.C. next week to face the Seton Hall University Pirates in the first of a three-game BIG EAST series at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex at 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 2nd.
