WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team split with the Creighton University Bluejays on Friday in a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader at the Creighton Softball Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. GU fell 6-5 in the first game, but came back with a 6-4 victory in the second contest. With the split, the Hoyas move to 14-15 overall and 7-7 in league play, while the Bluejays sit at 22-21 for the season and 10-4 in the league.
GAME 1 - GEORGETOWN 5, CREIGHTON 6
Hoya Highlights
- Dayanara Campos led the way with a 1-for-3 performance with four RBIs and one run scored.
- Brooke Rebhan was 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and a pair of doubles in the contest.
- Dani Koo hit 2-for-3 with a double to her credit.
- Gabby Park was 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and GU's first triple of the season.
How it Happened
- Creighton scored first on a GU error in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0.
- The Hoyas answered in the top of the third as Park's fielder's choice allowed Turner to cross the plate.
- On the next at bat, Campos sent a long ball to center which brought Rebhan home on the sacrifice fly to give the Blue & Gray the 2-1 advantage.
- A Bluejay single in the bottom of the fourth knotted it at four, but Campos wasn't done with the heroics yet.
- With two runners on in the top of the fifth, she smashed a ball over the right field wall just inside the foul pole for the three-run homer and the historic hit as the Hoyas then led 5-2.
- A bases-loaded groundout to first in the bottom of the sixth gave Creighton one more run on the board, before a single down the right field line brought two runners home to tie it up at five.
- With a runner on second, a seventh-inning Creighton single allowed the Bluejays to take game one, 6-5.
Of Note
- With a three-run homer in the top of the fifth, Campos became the program's all-time home runs leader with 30 in her career.
GAME 2 - GEORGETOWN 6, CREIGHTON 4
Hoya Highlights
- Park and Devyn Johnson were both 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the game.
- Rebhan managed a 1-for-4 performance with two key RBIs, while Taylor Francis hit 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.
- Marina Egbert was credited with the win in 5.0 innings of work, while Catherine Larson picked up the save pitching two innings and notching one strikeout.
How it Happened
- The Hoyas got on the board first in game two when a single to center from Taylor Francis brought Park across the plate to make it 1-0.
- Creighton answered in the bottom of the second, and then got the bats going in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead.
- The top of the fourth belonged to the Hoyas as the Blue & Gray loaded the bases allowing a sacrifice fly from Emily Strittmatter to bring Campos home.
- A single up the middle by Johnson brought Francis home, and then a Rebhan single to the left side brought Johnson as well as Nina Sarlo around the bases and home to take the lead.
- Park's single rounded out the scoring as Claire Turner crossed the plate and Georgetown had the 6-4 advantage.
- For the final two innings, the Hoyas brought Larson into the circle, and she delivered as GU held on for the 6-4 victory.
Of Note
- Georgetown's last win at Creighton was by the same 6-4 margin in 2022.
