Hoyas Fall 4-3 to James Madison in Extra Innings

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's softball team dropped a 4-3 extra inning affair to visiting James Madison in nonconference action on Wednesday afternoon at the Catholic University Softball Field. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 14-17 overall while the Dukes even their record to 20-20.

Hoya Highlights How it Happened
  • After a quiet first two innings, scoring opened for both sides in the third. James Madison took a 2-0 lead in the top of the frame behind a pair of RBI singles. Georgetown responded in the bottom of the stanza as Strittmatter doubled to left center to bring home Campos and Rebhan and knot things up at 2-2.
  • In the fifth, the Dukes took a 3-2 lead with a two-out RBI single to center.
  • Georgetown would force extra frames with another run in the bottom of the seventh as Turner got things going with a one-out triple. Two batters later, Park connected on the first pitch she saw and doubled to left center to bring Turner across the plate.
  • James Madison would add a run in the top of the eighth but the Hoyas were unable to respond.
James Madison Notes
  • Cali Legzdin went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Dukes while Kia Ortega notched the game-winning RBI single in the eighth.
  • Kirsten Fleet tossed 4.2 innings in relief, allowing just one run on two hits.
