Softball Blanks Butler 4-0 in Series Opener

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's softball team shutout visiting Butler 4-0 in the opening game of its three-game BIG EAST series on Friday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Sports Complex. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 15-17 overall and even their record to 8-8 in BIG EAST play. The Bulldogs fall to 17-17 overall and 9-7 in league play.

Hoya Highlights
  • Catherine Larson (7-5) tossed a gem for the Blue & Gray, striking out eight while allowing just four hits in the complete game shutout.
  • Gabby Park went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base.
  • Emily Strittmatter went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Brooke Rebhan went 2-for-4 with a run scored from the leadoff spot.
  • Dayanara Campos went 1-for-1 with an RBI double and drew a pair of walks.
  • Claire Turner went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base while Taylor Franics drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
How it Happened
  • Georgetown opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs. The Hoyas led off with back-to-back singles and loaded the bases on a four-pitch walk to Campos. Francis then drove in the first run of the day on a sacrifice fly to centerfield before Strittmatter singled Park home to make it 2-0.
  • Adding another run in the second, Turner and Park both singled to put GU runners on first and second with two outs. Converting a double steal, an errant throw from Butler's first baseman allowed Turner to round third and score to give the Hoyas a 3-0 lead.
  • Park would pick up her second base hit of the game with two outs in the fourth before Campos knocked a double to right field to bring Park home for the 4-0 Georgetown advantage.
  • Butler could only manage one hit the rest of the game, a triple in the top of the seventh they could not convert to a run.
Butler Notes
  • Cate Lehner went 2-for-3 from the plate to lead the Bulldogs while Makena Alexander and Olivia Robards went 1-for-3.
  • Katie Petran (5-3) allowed nine Georgetown hits and struck out two while giving up three earned runs.
