WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (16-22, 9-11 BIG EAST) split a doubleheader against the Providence College Friars (27-16, 16-4 BIG EAST) on Tuesday afternoon in a BIG EAST series in Rhode Island. GU lost the first game 9-1 in six innings, but came back and held on to win the second game by a score of 2-1 against the league-leading Friars. The series was rescheduled from earlier this season due to weather in the region.
GAME 1 - GEORGETOWN 1, PROVIDENCE 9 (6 Inn.)

How it Happened
- The Hoyas struck first as a double from Strittmatter to right center brought Brooke Rebhan home to put GU ahead 1-0 in the top of the fourth.
- A two-run homer in the bottom of the inning from the Friars put Providence on top.
- The Friars would continue to score, building the lead to as much as 9-1 before the game was called final in the bottom of the sixth.
GAME 2 - GEORGETOWN 2, PROVIDENCE 1
Hoya Highlights
- Strittmatter led the way with a 1-for-3 performance, an RBI, a run scored and a home run.
- Rebhan added a hit and a run, while Francis had two hits in the contest.
- Marina Egbert picked up the win in the circle with a complete game and three strikeouts in the game.
How it Happened
- Georgetown got on the board in the top of the first when Rebhan managed to make her way around the bases, and steal home on a throwing error to make it 1-0.
- Strittmatter then sent a home run over the left field wall to push the score to 2-0 in favor of the Blue & Gray.
- The Hoya defense stood strong, and Providence made a game of it with a homer in the bottom of the seventh to pull within one.
- Egbert and the defense would hold on, with the pitcher striking out the final batter to give GU the 2-1 victory.
