WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (16-24, 9-13 BIG EAST) went ahead early, but could not hold on falling 14-6 to the UConn Huskies (26-25, 16-6 BIG EAST) on Friday afternoon in the first game of a BIG EAST series at the Mount Vernon Softball Complex. Georgetown led early, but late hits from the Huskies resulted in the 14-6 decision.
Hoya Highlights
- Taylor Francis led the way going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and a pair of RBIs.
- Gabby Park was 1-for-4 with two runs scored, and Abby Kozo managed a 1-for-2 performance with a run scored.
- Catherine Larson took the loss pitching 5.1 innings with six strikeouts in the game.
How it Happened
- A pair of Husky errors allowed both Francis and Brooke Rebhan to score in the bottom of the first.
- The Hoyas continued the scoring in the second on a Francis single up the right side as Park crossed the plate.
- UConn added one in the top of the third, but Francis was at it again in the bottom of the inning as her single to right centerfield allowed Nina Sarlo to come home.
- Francis and Park would score later in the inning on another Husky error to make it 6-1.
- UConn got the bats going in the fifth as six hits in the inning allowed the Huskies to take the lead 8-6.
- The Huskies added two more runs in the top of the sixth, and capped it off with a grand slam in the seventh making the final 14-6.
