Hoyas Fall in NCAA Quarterfinals

NEWARK, Del. – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team fell 16-6 to Duke in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon at Delaware Stadium. The Hoyas drop to 11-5 overall to close out the 2026 season after making their 14th appearance all-time in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
 
Hoya Highlights  How it Happened
  • Georgetown jumped on the board quickly, scoring the first goal of the game just 34 seconds into the contest. Duke tied things up at the 9:29 mark and posted a pair of goals in the final 2:28 of the first quarter to lead 3-1.
  • After a slow start to the second, Duke added a pair of goals four seconds apart at 9:19 and 9:15 to go ahead 5-1 and added a late goal to take a 6-1 advantage into halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, the Hoyas struck first again before Duke rallied off four-straight goals to lead 10-2. Georgetown outscored the Blue Devils 2-1 in the final 2:07 of the period, including Acton's goal with one tick on the clock to make it 12-4 with 15 minutes to play.
  • Duke kept momentum going in the fourth outscoring the Hoyas 5-2 in the frame to seal the 16-6 victory.
Duke Notes
  • Max Sloat led the Blue Devils (11-4) with four goals and an assist while Benn Johnston added a hat trick.
  • Kyle Colsey chipped in two goals and two assists.
  • Cal Gerard went 10-for-19 (.526) on faceoffs with seven ground balls.
  • Defensively, Anthony Drago had three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
  • In goal, Buck Cunningham (3-1) had 10 saves in the win.
