WASHINGTON – The second-seeded Georgetown University women's lacrosse team (12-6, 5-1 BIG EAST) saw its postseason run come to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling 12-4 to top-seeded No. 17 Denver (15-3, 6-0 BIG EAST) in the BIG EAST Championship game. Despite the result, the Blue & Gray were well-represented on the postseason awards stage as sophomore defender Christina King, senior defender Kendall Steer, and junior midfielder Reagan Ziegler were all named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Denver established an early advantage at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter. Georgetown got on the board in the second period when Danica Blix found the back of the net off an assist from Anne McGovern. McGovern later added a man-up goal on a free-position shot to bring the score to 6-2 heading into halftime.
The Hoya defense, anchored by Leah Warehime, battled throughout the second half as the Blue & Gray recorded 14 ground balls and seven saves. Molly Byrne scored an unassisted goal in the third quarter, and Gracie Driggs added a final tally in the fourth off a feed from Blix. However, a five-goal performance from Denver's Caroline Keil helped the Pioneers maintain control and secure the conference title.
