WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey team won its 2026 season opener 2-1 on Friday night in North Carolina. The Hoyas endured a delayed start because of lightning in the area to start the season with a win for the second-straight year.
Sophomore
Adelae Chierici and freshman
Tatum Johnson each scored for the Hoyas in the win, both converting on penalty corners in the first half.
Izzy Lee and
Elena Perez Alejandro notched a pair of assists each on the day.
In goal,
Alex Duff picked up the win between the pipes. She allowed just one goal on two shots with one save.
Georgetown struck first, scoring in the fourth minute at the 3:10 mark on an early penalty corner. Johnson scored in her first career game as a rookie courtesy of her senior battery of Perez Alejandro and Lee.
Davidson responded early in the second quarter, scoring less than three minutes in at the 17:51 mark.
The Hoyas answered back nearly five minutes later as Chierici netted her first career goal courtesy of another penalty corner combo from Perez Alejandro and Lee with 22:39 on the clock.
Georgetown's defense came up big in the second half, forcing the Wildcats to nine low-quality shots that didn't find a single one on cage. The Blue & Gray's defense also held off nine Davidson penalty corners in the final 30 minutes to seal the one-goal victory.
Lourdes Wolf scored the lone goal for the Wildcats in the loss. Eleanor Larson had just one save in 56 minutes of action before being pulled for an extra offense advantage that never came to fruition.
