WASHINGTON – The No. 6/9 Georgetown University men's soccer team used a big second-half push to pick up the 3-0 nonconference victory over the No. 19/16 Duke University Blue Devils on Sunday evening at Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 3-0-1 on the year, while the Blue Devils drop to 2-2-0 for the season.

- "There were some good performances from a lot of guys tonight. I thought David Urrutia was great in the middle of the field against an aggressive Duke defense. He was able to calm it and put them on their heels. It was a comprehensive team performance across the board and that's what you're going to need when you go on the road against a good ACC team in Duke and win 3-0."
How it Happened
- Georgetown had possession for much of the first half, but could not find the back of the net.
- A chance from freshman Terrance Reynolds was saved for GU's lone shot on goal in the half as the teams went into the break in a scoreless tie.
- Everything changed in the 55th minute when the Blue & Gray was awarded a free kick outside the box in a prime location. The service from junior David Urrutia went to the back post, and found the foot of junior Tate Lampman who tapped it in to make it 1-0.
- A second yellow card in the 66th minute resulted in a red card which forced the Blue Devils to play down a man for the remainder of the match.
- The Hoyas would take full advantage of the opportunity and scored just five minutes later as senior Oliver Stafford found junior Mitchell Baker in the middle. The forward turned to his right and fired to the far post to double the score.
- Baker wasn't done yet when he scored one more in the 82nd minute. Senior Mateo Ponce Ocampo saw Reynolds streaking down the left side. Reynolds had the chance, but unselfishly passed to an open Baker who converted to make it 3-0 which would stand as the final.
Of Note
- Georgetown outshot Duke, 11-4, and had six shots on goal to the Blue Devils' one.
- The Hoyas managed five corners in the game, and Duke tallied two.
- Junior Charlie DeMarco played all 90 minutes with one save to his credit and his second-consecutive clean sheet.
- He had a key stop on a free kick in the second half.
