Georgetown Football Welcomes Cornell for Homecoming

WASHINGTON – Georgetown football is set to host the Cornell University Big Red on Saturday, October 3 for homecoming. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Cooper Field in Washington, D.C.

ABOUT THE HOYAS

  • The Hoyas enter the week at 0-3 overall and 0-2 in league play following a 20-17 overtime setback against Columbia on Sept. 26 in Washington, D.C.
  • Junior quarterback Jack Johnson has completed 29 of 51 passes (56.86%) for 365 yards and five touchdowns through three games.
  • Running back Clay Ash leads Georgetown's rushing attack with 126 yards on 36 carries, averaging 3.5 yards per attempt. Jayden Sumpter ranks second on the team with 121 rushing yards.
  • Wide receiver Hassan Mahasin leads the Hoyas with 128 receiving yards on six receptions, including one touchdown. Mahasin also returned a punt for a touchdown against Columbia, earning a spot on the Patriot League weekly honor roll. Isaiah Grimes ranks second on the team with 71 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Burke Carroll has caught a touchdown pass in each of the last two games.
  • Sophomore defensive back Brian Allen leads Georgetown with 25 tackles, including 16 solo stops and nine assisted tackles, and has also recorded one forced fumble. Chigozie-Oge Evans leads the Hoyas with two sacks this season.
  • Chris Martin and Bryson Logan each recorded an interception in last weekend's matchup against Columbia.
  • Head Coach Rob Sgarlata enters his 13th season at the helm of the Hoyas.

ABOUT THE BIG RED

  • Cornell enters the matchup with a 1-1 overall record after defeating Yale, 38-25, last weekend at Schoellkopf Field in Ithaca, New York.
  • Quarterback Garrett Bass-Sulpizio leads the Columbia passing attack, completing 32 of 58 attempts (55.17%) for 284 yards.
  • Bass-Sulpizio also leads the Lions on the ground with 79 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Running back Jordan Triplett has added 52 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns, while Ean Poppe and Brendan Lee have each found the end zone on the ground.
  • Ja'von Broussard leads Columbia's receiving corps with five receptions for 73 yards, averaging 14.6 yards per catch.
  • Tommy MacPherson leads the Big Red secondary with three interceptions, 17 tackles and a forced fumble on the season.
  • Head Coach Dan Swanstrom leads the Big Red in his fourth season.

ABOUT THE MATCHUP

  • Georgetown and Cornell will meet for the fifth time in program history. The Hoyas hold a 2-2 overall record against the Big Red. 
  • GU last faced the Big Red on October 5, 2019, and won 14-8 in Ithaca, New York.
