Keener joined the Georgetown coaching staff in August 2021 as a volunteer assistant coach. In August 2023 he was elevated to hitting coach and recruiting coordinator. 
 
In his first season on the Hilltop, Keener was an integral part of the Hoyas' historic 2022 campaign that featured the program's first BIG EAST Baseball Championships appearance since 2018. In 2022, Keener helped coach the first BIG EAST Freshman of the Year in program history, Owen Carapellotti and was part of the staff that won the program's first BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year award following a six-win campaign in 2021. In his second season on the Hilltop Keener helped coach the Hoyas to back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time in program history. Keener helped coach five all-conference selections as Ubaldo Lopez and Michael Eze were named first team All-BIG East selections and Owen CarapellottiJake Hyde and Austin Kretzschmar earned second team honors.
 
Keener arrived on the Hilltop in 2021 after spending two seasons at Army where he was the Black Knights' volunteer assistant during the 2020 season. In 2021, Keener's role expanded as he was named an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Black Knights. He helped lead Army to the 2021 Patriot League Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. He mentored the conference's Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year while having seven student-athletes selected to postseason All-Patriot League teams. The Black Knights led the conference in both hits (484) and runs scored (328) in 2021.
 
Prior to Army, Keener was a student assistant coach at Michigan during the 2019 season, helping lead the Wolverines to the program's eighth trip to the NCAA College World Series and its third-ever trip to the CWS Finals, finishing as the national runner-up.
 
Keener has also served as the head coach of the South Florida Sailfish in the Collegiate League of the Palm Beaches, a summer collegiate league.
 
As a student-athlete, Keener spent two seasons (2017-18) in a Michigan uniform as a catcher and infielder. He played in 50 career games with the Wolverines before graduating in 2019. Prior to Michigan, he played at Alvin Community College.
