Deng joins the Hoyas after spending the 2024 season as a defensive line graduate assistant at Oregon State University. Prior to Oregon State, Deng was a defensive line and linebackers coach at Training Haus, where he worked with the nation's top collegiate football players to prepare them for Pro Days and the NFL Combine.
Before coaching, Deng played linebacker at the University of California, Berkeley (2019-21). While at Cal, the Virginia native was a two-time team captain and two-time All-Pac-12 linebacker. Deng also recorded Cal career totals of 154 tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss (-37 yards), 3.5 sacks (-14 yards), eight pass breakups, eight passes defended, six quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Following his career at Cal, Deng was a member of the 2022-23 Chicago Bears practice squad and became the first person of South Sudanese Heritage to make it to the NFL.
Deng graduated from Cal in December of 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in American studies before earning graduate certificates in entrepreneurship in May of 2021 and business administration in December of 2021.
