Bill Howze begins his fourth season as the director of basketball operations. Howze returned to Georgetown University after working as an educator in the local public school systems.  He has previous experience on the Hilltop as the executive program administrator for the GU men’s basketball program.

Prior to that, Howze had a successful tenure as the head boys varsity basketball coach at Archbishop Carroll High School.  He also served as an assistant basketball coach at the University of the District of Columbia and Marymount University.

Howze, who graduated from the University of Maryland in 1994 with a degree in secondary education, served as a social studies teacher and assistant varsity basketball, baseball and golf coach at Archbishop Carroll from 1995-99.  He was the top assistant for the nationally-recognized basketball program, while also helping to establish the school’s golf program in 1998.

Howze guided the varsity basketball team to its first winning season in four years in his first year at the helm.  His team improved its record by 10 wins in his first season and reached the semifinals of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Championships.  He developed six Division I basketball players in his two seasons as head coach at Carroll.  Throughout his 15- year prep coaching career, Howze has coached more than 50 players who continued their playing careers in college, including Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje who played at both Georgetown and in the National Basketball Association.

Howze and his wife Shirelle have son, William III (14).
