Walt Corbean serves as the assistant coach / director of operations in his second season as part of Head Coach Ed Cooley’s staff. A former Wake Forest assistant and Xavier alum with two NCAA appearances as a player, Corbean begins his tenure on the Hilltop following nine seasons as an assistant coach at Boston University.
 
During his time with the Terriers, he helped Head Coach Joe Jones guide BU to the program's first Patriot League tournament title in 2020, two second-place finishes in the PL regular season standings (2017, 2020), four PL semifinal appearances (2017, 2018, 2020, 2022) and a pair of postseason berths (2022 College Basketball Invitational and 2016 CollegeInsider.com Tournament).
 
Corbean worked on the Wake Forest staff from 2007-13, including the last two as an assistant coach. He joined the Demon Deacons as the director of basketball operations after serving as the head basketball coach at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Indiana. In seven seasons, Corbean led the Grenadiers to a 140-95 record and three National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic (NAIA) National Tournament appearances.
 
He also captured four Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. His most successful season came in 2005-06, when Indiana University Southeast finished ninth in the nation in the final NAIA Division II poll with a record of 30-4.
 
Corbean began his coaching career at his high school alma mater, The Seven Hills School, in Cincinnati. He was an assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach for four seasons before earning his degree in psychology from Xavier in 1991.
 
The former Musketeer then broke into the collegiate coaching ranks as an assistant coach at Northern Kentucky University. He spent four seasons as an assistant at NKU, the last two of which he also served as academic coordinator. Corbean was instrumental in helping the Norsemen reach the Sweet 16 of the 1995 NCAA Division II Tournament.
 
Making his return to the Patriot League at BU, he joined the staff at Army in 1995 and spent three years with the Black Knights, including one season as the recruiting coordinator. Corbean then became an assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky for two seasons from 1998-2000 before taking the head job at IUS.
 
As a Musketeer from 1985-87, Corbean helped Xavier to a pair of Midwestern Collegiate Conference championships and a two-year record of 44-18. After earning his bachelor's from Xavier, Corbean received his master's degree in secondary education from Northern Kentucky in 1997.
 
Corbean and his wife, Kathy, are the parents of a son, Trey.
