Sharon Brummell

Sharon Brummell serves as the chief of staff in her second season on Head Coach Ed Cooley’s staff. Brummell has been part of the Georgetown Athletics staff since January 2012 where she most recently served as the executive senior associate athletics director for business & finance / senior woman administrator.
 
In her previous role with the department, Brummell managed the daily activity of the business office and served on the athletic director’s senior staff. She oversaw the athletic budget and provided strategic advice to the athletic director on matters including contracts, revenue agreements, departmental policies and procedures and scholarship support for all 30 sports. Brummell also served as the administrator for women’s basketball, volleyball, softball and women’s lacrosse.
 
Brummell came to Georgetown after nearly 20 years at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore. In her final six years, she served as an associate director of athletics and the senior woman administrator for the university.
 
Brummell worked as an accountant at Eastern Shore and was the associate athletic director for budgeting and fiscal operations during her time there. While serving as the program’s senior woman administrator, she helped shape The Shore’s gender-equity plans and has been an advocate for women’s athletics. Brummell was also the bowling coach at Eastern Shore for 14 years and is recognized as one the most successful coaches in the sport winning three NCAA national championships and one USBC national championship. She is the only coach to have won both championships in the same year.
 
Brummell was instrumental in the Salisbury, Maryland, community, spearheading The Shore’s participation in Relay for Life, breast cancer awareness events and even taking her team to local shelters advocating against domestic violence.
 
Brummell was an active member of CABMA, NACWAA, NACDA, and MOAA during her time with athletics. She was elected as CABMA president for the 2019-20 membership year as well as being named the Division I Administrator of the Year for 2018-19 by Women Leaders in College Sports.  Previously, Brummell was the CABMA 1st vice president. 
 
She served on the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests committee and is a graduate of the 2013 NCAA Pathways Program, an initiative that serves to assist minority and / or women administrators to prepare through education, training and mentorship to become athletic directors. Active on the national scene, she is also a member of the NCAA Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Committee.
 
Brummell earned her Bachelor of Science in business administration / finance from Salisbury State University.  She and her husband Robert Sr., reside in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.  They have one grown son, Robert.
