Matt Rewkowski enters his fifth season as an assistant coach at Georgetown and will transition from offensive coordinator to defensive coordinator for the 2017 campaign. During his four previous seasons on the Hilltop, GU has averaged 10-or-more goals per game twice. He guided Craig Berge to All-America honors as a freshman in 2015, the first Hoya to accomplish that feat, and Daniel Bucaro to the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year in 2016. His offense has produced eight All-BIG EAST performers, including Reilly O'Connor (twice), Berge, Bucaro, Joe Bucci, Peter Conley, Charlie McCormick and Bo Stafford. He has also coached two players to professional careers with O'Connor being selected in the first round of the NLL draft and Stafford being selected in the supplemental round of the MLL Draft. In 2015, Rewkowski's offense averaged 11.62 goals per game, a three-goal improvement from 2014. Stafford and O'Connor posted career seasons, helping GU advance to the BIG EAST Championship Game, while helping develop freshmen Berge and Stephen Quinzi to productive seasons. In 2014 Conley became the first Hoya freshman to earn First Team All-BIG EAST honors, leading the team with 37 points (24 goals, 13 assists). In 2013, Rewkowski's offense averaged 10.13 goals per game, scoring 10 or more goals seven times, including 17 goals against Marquette, the most by a GU team since 2002. Under Rewkowski's guidance, sophomore attack O'Connor emerged with the BIG EAST's second-highest points/game average (3.73). O'Connor's 56 points was the most by a GU player since Steve Dusseau in 2002. Then-sophomore midfielder McCormick also broke out with 27 points (19 goals, 8 assists). O'Connor and McCormick were both selected Second Team All-BIG EAST. A Johns Hopkins graduate and Bethpage, N.Y., native, Rewkowski came to Georgetown after spending two seasons as the associate head coach at Cornell, where he was in charge of the team's offense. Despite losing Rob Pannell, the 2011 USILA Player of the Year in the second game, Rewkowski's offense was still among the nation's best, ranking ninth in scoring offense (12.0 gpg), 13th overall in man-up offense (.422) and 16th in points per game (17.62). In Rewkowski's first season at Cornell, the Big Red offense flourished, posting the nation's second-best scoring offense (12.71 gpg) in 2011, while leading the squad to a 14-3 record and a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals, while also winning its first-ever Ivy League tournament title. Prior to Cornell, Rewkowski spent four seasons at Hofstra, helping the Pride to 36 victories, a Colonial Athletic Association championship (2008), a CAA regular season title (2009), and three berths to the NCAA tournament (2008, 09, 10). He also had a hand in coaching eight All-Americans, 27 All-CAA selections and six North-South All-Stars. His 2010 offense was ranked in the top 10 in the nation in five offensive categories, including scoring (fifth, 12.93), scoring margin (fourth, 3.93), points per game (fourth, 20.5), assists per game (sixth, 7.57) and shot percentage (fourth, .352). Rewkowski spent one season as an assistant coach on the scholastic level in Denver while he was a member of the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse. He played his collegiate lacrosse at both Johns Hopkins and Duke, winning the 2005 NCAA Championship as a senior captain with the Blue Jays. Rewkowski and his wife, Julie, currently reside in Silver Spring, Md., with their son, Ryan and daughter, Anna.
