Alan Fread came to the Hilltop in 2014 as the volunteer assistant coach, he became the video coordinator in 2015. He is responsible for the video production of the program.
Last year, the Hoyas went into the NCAA Tournament as the eighth overall seed and made it to the quarterfinals before failing to advance in penalty kicks against the University of Virginia, the eventual national champions. The team also boasted a number of individual successes.
Sophomore Joshua Yaro was named a First Team All-American and the BIG EAST Defender of the Year. Freshman Arun Basuljevic was the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and junior Brandon Allen was also named an All-American. The Hoyas had goalkeeper Tomas Gomez drafted 60th overall in the Major League Soccer Draft and midfielder Tyler Rudy picked up by the New England Revolution as a Discovery Player.
Fread spent two years at Saint Francis University as an assistant coach working specifically with the goalkeepers. In addition to training responsibilities, Fread assisted in recruiting, game analysis, scouting, coordinating game day protocols, travel logistics and managing team gear and equipment. Additionally, Fread worked closely with compliance and academic coordinators to make sure student-athletes made satisfactory academic progress.
In 2013, the Red Flash recorded their best season in school history. SFU received votes in the NSCAA national polls and was ranked No. 1 in the North-Atlantic region for the first time in program history with a record of 11-4-4. The season also included the Red Flash's fifth trip to the Northeast Conference (NEC) tournament in seven years. SFU held its opponents to 0.64 goals-per-game and concluded the season ranked No. 8 in the nation in goals-against.
During Fread's time at SFU, he coached nine athletes who earned All-NEC recognition, four named NSCAA All-North Atlantic Region team, five named to the All-NEC Tournament team and a freshman earning recognition on the 2013 SoccerNews Second Team All-Freshman squad.
Prior to coaching collegiately, Fread coached high school, club and ODP. Fread was an assistant coach at Loyalsock High School, a District IV contender, while serving as a team coach for Soccer Training Network (STN). Fread has also been a clinician for Penn United Soccer Association, and coached the PAWest Hollidaysburg Soccer Association U-15 boy's team.
A 2009 graduate of Penn State University, Fread holds a bachelor's degree in psychology with a business concentration. He currently holds a National Diploma from National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
