Gussie Johns is in her third season on the Hilltop, she serves as the volunteer assistant working primarily with the goalies.
Johns is the starting goalkeeper for the United States Women’s National Team. She and Fried won a gold medal at the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup in 2017 as well as at the World Games. She also plays professionally with the Philadelphia Fire of the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL) after being selected as a first round draft pick in 2018.
A 2018 graduate of the University of Southern California, Johns was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Trojans. She was named Pac-12 All-Conference as a senior and led the nation in ground balls. In 2017, she was selected Mount Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Conference as a junior. Johns was also the NCAA goals against leader in 2016.
Off the field, Johns was named all-academic for three seasons (2016-18) and won the Trojaneer Diamond Award given to the student-athlete who brought the most fame and distinction to USC. Johns worked with the Trojan Athletic Senate and was a member of the Dean’s List all four years. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Marshall School of Business in 2018.
The Washington, D.C. native interned at both EyeBlack and SCOUT by Bungalow during college. She has also coached for the Capital Lacrosse Club keeping with her local ties as well as volunteering with WINNERS Lacrosse helping youth in low-income areas learn the game of lacrosse.
