Stephen Baldi joined the Georgetown University Cross Country / Track & Field program as a volunteer assistant coach in December of 2019. Prior to joining the Hilltop, coached for six years at The Bullis School in Potomac, Md.
Prior to Georgetown
Working exclusively with the horizontal jumpers, Baldi’s athletes won eight ISL and six IAC event titles, including two conference records and two event sweeps (girl’s triple jump 2019 and long jump 2018). Over his six-year tenure at The Bullis School, Baldi’s athletes qualified for over 40 New Balance Nationals individual horizontal events, captured three national titles and set one nationals event record.
The 2018-19 indoor campaign was highlighted by two of Baldi’s athletes opening the season at US No. 1 and US No. 3, by placing first and second at the prestigious VA Showcase at Liberty University. The athletes ended the indoor season ranked US No. 3 and US No. 5. The 2018-19 outdoor campaign was highlighted by three members of The Bullis School qualifying for the Penn Relays High School Championship of America long jump, finishing second, third and fifth overall.
Two of Baldi’s athletes competed in the 2019 USATF U20 Girl’s long jump championship, finishing fourth and ninth.
The 2017-18 indoor campaign was highlighted by a New Balance Nationals Emerging Elite Championship title in the girl’s long jump. During the outdoor season, The Bullis School had an unprecedented national performance list of four athletes over 19 feet in the girl’s long jump.
In 2016, one of Baldi’s athletes shattered the boy’s freshman New Balance Nationals long jump record, on their way to winning the national title. To date, the record still stands.
During Baldi’s tenure at The Bullis School, all eight school records in the horizontal events were broken. Baldi’s athletes remain ranked as Maryland’s All-Time top 10 performers in the boy’s indoor long jump (No. 2), boy’s outdoor long jump (No. 8), girl’s indoor long jump (No. 4, No. 5, No. 10), girl’s outdoor long jump (No. 3 and No. 8), girl’s indoor triple jump (No. 6), and girl’s outdoor triple jump (No. 6).
Georgetown Career, Academics, and Personal
During his career as a member of the Georgetown men’s track and field team, Baldi was a member of seven BIG EAST Team Championship titles. He earned back-to-back BIG EAST Indoor men’s triple jump titles in 1996 and 1997, along with earning an IC4A men’s triple jump title in 1997.
In 1997, Baldi led off the Penn Relays Championship of America sprint medley, which won the title and currently holds the Georgetown school record. During the 1998 outdoor campaign, Baldi won the BIG EAST Outdoor men’s triple jump title.
Post-college, he competed as a member of the Reebok Enclave from 1999-2000. In 2016, Baldi coached and competed at the USATF Master Indoor National Championships, winning the National titles for the W35-39 4x200-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay (set a world record), and the M40-44 triple jump. Collectively, six Georgetown men’s and women’s track and field alums competed for HD Masters at the USATF Championship meet and raised over $10,000 for the Huntington Disease Society of America.
Baldi graduated from the McDonough School of Business in 1999 with a bachelor of science in small business development and marketing. He and his daughter Justice live in Washington, D.C. His oldest daughter Elizabeth is a member of the United States Naval Academy and his son Langston is a junior at Davidson College.
