Lyndse Hokanson is in her fifth season as the assistant coach for the Georgetown University women’s soccer team after joining the program in April 2015.
During her time at Georgetown, Hokanson has worked with the team’s goalkeepers and has helped the team win three-straight BIG EAST Championship titles from 2016-18, back-to-back regular season titles in 2017 and 2018, as well as helped guide the Hoyas in a pair of trips to the College Cup in 2016 and 2018.
She is part of a staff that has been recognized as the National Coaching Staff of the Year in 2016 and in 2018 by the United Soccer Coaches, as well as earn the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year award. She helped the Hoyas set multiple team records, including the program record for most wins twice (21 in 2018 and 20 in 2016) and most shutouts (17 in 2017 and 2016) in a season. Her tutelage helped Arielle Schechtman break the NCAA shutout percentage record (.809) as Schechtman recorded 17 shutouts in 21 games.
She joined the Hilltop after spending the 2014 season as the graduate assistant coach at Valdosta State University, where she worked with the goalkeepers and aided in all aspects of team operations.
In 2014, Valdosta State won its first ever Gulf South Conference Championship and made it to the second round of the NCAA Division II National Championships. The team finished the season ranked No. 23 in the country by the United Soccer Coaches. Valdosta’s starting goalkeeper, Olivia Mills, was named First Team All-Gulf South Conference, earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team and finished the year with a 0.83 goals against average.
Prior to Valdosta State, Hokanson was the goalkeeper coach at Chantilly High School in Virginia. She also was a Region I associate coach in training for Region I Olympic Development Camp in July 2014.
Hokanson started her coaching career while in college with the Vienna Youth Soccer Association with the U-10 VYS Patriots Red Girls team. She coached that squad through their U-14 season.
Hokanson graduated summa cum laude from George Mason, earning her Bachelor of Arts in communication. While at Mason she was a three-year starter and team captain from 2012-14. She was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 and All-Academic in 2013, as well as being a United Soccer Coaches Scholar-Athlete. Hokanson finished in the top 10 all-time in saves, save percentage, goals-against average and shutouts for the Patriots. She was also a three-time Provost Scholar-Athlete. She earned her master’s degree in sports industry management from Georgetown’s School of Continuing Studies in 2017.
Hokanson earned her United States Soccer Federation (USSF) “C” License in 2018 and an Advanced National Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches in January 2016.
She is a graduate of the 44th class of the NCAA Women Coaches Academy that was held in Denver in 2018. The NCAA Women Coaches Academy, hosted in partnership between the Alliance of Women Coaches and the NCAA, is a four-day educational training available to NCAA coaches of all experience levels. It is designed for women coaches who are ready to increase their individual effectiveness by learning advanced skills and strategies that directly affect their personal and team success.
Hokanson was selected to the 2018-19 WeCOACH Coaches Council in September 2018. The Coaches Council is a selected group of individuals who will help ensure WeCOACH is strategically serving women coaches from all sports and levels. In May 2019, she received the Cecile Reynaud Coaching Mastery Award from WeCOACH.
