Nine boats finish in top five of the regatta.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 25, 1999) -- Georgetown's crew commenced the fall campaign hosting the Charlie Butt Scullers' Head of the Potomac in Washington, D.C. The Hoyas had nine boats place in the top five of the regatta.
Georgetown's men's team finished in the top three in several races. In the Men's Club Eight, the Hoyas clocked a time of 15:29.8 to finish second behind George Washington. George Washington was the top collegiate performer to finish with a time of 14:52.8. In the Men's Open Eight, GU's lightweights took the second and eighth spots with times of 13:49.1 and 15:00.0 respectively, while GU's heavyweights came in third (13:59.5), sixth (14:38.3) and seventh places (14:56.0). Navy's boat took the top spot with a time of 13:40.9, while George Washington was fifth in 14:18.2. The Men's Four Heavyweights with Coxswain claimed the second and 11th spots with times of 15:36.2 and 16:57.5, while the Men's Four Lightweights with Coxswain came in third (15:38.9), fourth (15:41.4) and ninth (16:34.6). In the Men's Lightweight Single, Georgetown's Jeff Anchukattis (Fr., Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuana) turned in a time of 17:59.7 for fifth place. In the Mixed Eight, the Hoyas took the third and fifth places with time of 15:42.9 and 16:41.0 respectively.
On the women's side, GU had one boat to finish in the top three. In the Women's Open Eight, the Hoyas posted a time of 15:49.0 which was good for third place behind George Washington's time of 15:41.7. Navy's boat won the event with a time of 15:29.4. In the Women's Four with Coxswain, GU placed eighth with a time of 17:52.3. Navy was the top collegiate finisher in sixth place with a time of 17:39.7 in the women's four. In the Women's Club Eight, the Hoyas finished in fifth and sixth places with times of 16:40.7 and 17:06.7 respectively. Once again, Navy claimed the top collegiate spot with a time of 16:25.2.
