Stats Georgetown improved its record to 3-6 on Wednesday, January 19, after defeating local rival George Mason 147-77, in swimming and diving action at the Yates Field House.
Lauren Moynihan (Fr., South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) and Rene Pierpont (So., Roseville, Minn./Roseville) were double individual winners against the Patriots as Moynihan took first-place in the 1000 freestyle (10:41.97) and the 500 freestyle (5:19.10), while Pierpont posted a 186.83 score in the 1m diving event and registered a 173.1 score on the 3m board. Other winners included Erin Lenahan (Fr., Western Springs, Ill./St. Ignatius College Prep) in the 50 free (25.84), Lauren Schmidt (So., Somerset, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) in the 100 fly (1:01.06), and Sophia Adkison (So., Novato, Calif./Novato) in the 100 freestyle (55.29). Francesca DiSilvio (Fr., Hingham, Mass./Hingham) also touched the wall for a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:03.39).
The Hoyas swept two events on the day. Lenahan was followed by Caragh Moynihan (So., New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Christine Gibadlo (Sr., Middletown, N.J./Middletown) in the 50 freestyle. Moynihan swam the race in 26.12, she also finished second in the 100 fly (1:01.49), while Gibadlo finished the 50 freestyle in third with a time of 26.33. Amanda Anderson (So., Denville, N.J./Morristown-Beard) and Liz Packard (Fr., Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) finished second and third in the 500 freestyle with times of 5:24.35 and 5:47.83, respectively.
GU also notched several other outstanding swims. Genna McKeel (Fr., Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) garnered second in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:59.83, and Meghan Welch (Sr., West Chazy, N.Y./Beekmantown) nabbed second in the 200 I.M. (2:15.73). Alison Hickey (Fr., Wilmette, Ill./Wilmette) swam the 100 freestyle in a time of 57.96 which was also good enough for second-place.
Georgetown posted another sweep in the 200-medley relay as the team comprised of DiSilvio, McKeel, C. Moynihan, and Adkison won the event in 1:55.35. Liz Maxwell (Fr., Pittsford, N.Y./Mercy), Kristie Hunt (Fr., Glenview, Ill./New Trier), Schmidt, and Gibadlo came in second with a time of 1:57.89. The team of Larkin Postles (So., Williamsville, N.Y.), Liz Murray (Fr., Pittsburgh, Pa.), Kylie Cooper (So., Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar), and Stephanie Marion (Sr., Wayland, Mass./Wayland) round out the sweep with a third-place time of 2:08.44.
The Hoyas' next meet is on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against St. Francis and the Virginia Military Institute at the Yates
