WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Freshman
Joseph Paden's (Signal Mountain, Tenn./The Baylor School) header in the 72nd minute proved to be the game-winner as Georgetown rallied for a 3-2 win at West Virginia. The Hoyas trailed 2-0 at the half, but scored three unanswered goals to earn the win. With the victory, Georgetown improved to 6-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in BIG EAST Conference play.
The Mountaineers (3-9-1, 1-6-1) scored two goals within eight minutes midway through the first half to take the lead. However, in the second half it was all Georgetown. Kenny Owens (Jr., Washington, D.C./Wilson) put the Hoyas on the board when he scored on a penalty kick at 49:19. It was the team-leading sixth goal of the season for Owens. GU tied the score in the 58th minute when Nate Port (Jr., Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) took a feed from Peter Bachman (Sr., Columbia, Md./Howard) and beat the West Virginia goalkeeper. Bachman also set up Paden's game-winning goal.
Georgetown freshman goalkeeper Tim Hogan (Richmond, Va./Freeman) improved to 2-0 in his first season. Hogan made five saves in recording the win.
The Hoyas will host Navy in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1 p.m. on Harbin Field. GU's next BIG EAST match will be on Tuesday, Oct. 17 when they host Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m.
