The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted the Potomac Relay Invite on Friday, October 13, with each team notching third-place finishes. The mens team competed against American, Catholic, George Washington and Mary Washington, while the women added Navy to that list of opponents.
The Hoyas earned two first-place finishes in the meet. Junior tri-captain Caragh Moynihan (New Canaan, Conn.), junior Lauren Schmidt (Somerset, N.J.) and sophomore Catherine Hayes (Charlottesville, Va.) won the women's 3 x 100 butterfly relay with a time of 3:03.40, while sophomore Amanda Burke (Reno, Nev.), senior tri-captain Richard Dennis (Waterville, Maine), Schmidt and sophomore Bryan Evangelista (Northport, N.Y.) combined to win the 400 co-ed relay.
Earning runner-up honors were freshman Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y.), junior tri-captain Amanda Anderson (Denville, N.J.), Hayes and sophomore Genna McKeel (Tampa, Fla.) in the women's 800 freestyle relay and Schmidt, sophomores Liz D'Auria (Newton, Mass.) and Erin Lenahan (Western Springs, Ill.) and C. Moynihan in the women's 200 freestyle relay. Their times were 8:08.07 and 1:41.60, respectively. Junior Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va.), with freshmen Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan) and Dan Connelly (Gladwyne, Pa.) and Evangelista also earned second place with a time of 1:28.42 in the men's 200 freestyle relay.
Five Hoya teams raced to third-place finishes. Lenahan, D'Auria, Hayes and Anderson earned third with a time of 4:55.53 in the women's 500 freestyle relay, and freshman Erin Kehoe (Haddon Heights, N.J.) and sophomore Lauren Moynihan (South Hadley, Mass.) placed third with a time of 10:41.63 in the women's 2 x 500 freestyle relay. On the men's side, Enters, junior Will Miller (Farmingdale, N.J.), Evangelista and Lengle garnered third with a time of 1:41.04 in the 200 medley relay. Senior Steve Brown (Newton, Pa.), junior Matt O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Dennis raced to a time of 3:11.34 in the men's 3 x 100 breastroke relay, while Enters, Miller, freshman Edmund Caulfield (Caldwell, N.J.) along with senior tri-captain Michael Weiss (Margate, N.J.) finished with a time of 7:27.91 in the men's 800 freestyle relay.
Georgetown's mens and womens swimming and diving teams will host Binghamton on Saturday, October 21, at 1 p.m. at the McCarthy Natatorium in Yates Field House.
