WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Junior
Kenny Owens (Washington, D.C./Wilson) scored on a penalty kick with just under 13 minutes to play as Georgetown defeated Notre Dame in a BIG EAST match, 2-0. Owens was awarded the penalty kick when a Fighting Irish defender committed a hand ball violation in the box.
Georgetown put the game away in the 83rd minute when Peter Bachman (Sr., Columbia, Md./Howard) put home a pass from Kyle Rakow (Sr., Dumfries, Va./CD Hylton) to increase the lead to 2-0. It was Bachman's first goal of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Tim Hogan (Richmond, Va./Freeman) posted his second consecutive shutout. He has won all four of his starts this season and lowered his goals against average to 0.71. The win was the third straight for the Hoyas, who improved to 8-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in BIG EAST play. Owens now has a team-high eight goals, including three game-winners.
The Hoyas will play their next three games on the road. GU will face Connecticut on Friday, Seton Hall on Sunday and Boston College on Oct. 27. Their next and final home game will come in the regular season finale against Richmond on Oct. 31.
